SI Graded Diamonds – Choosing the clarity grade that’s right for you
With diamonds, comes lots of grading details which can be really confusing. Unless you’ve been in the industry or made purchases in the past, SI1 and SI2 probably doesn’t mean much to you.
Let me just put it this way, short and sweet! Here is the scale of diamond clarity grading:
Category | Flawless | Internally Flawless | Very Very Slightly Included | Very Slightly Included | Slightly Included | Included | |||||
Grade | FL | IF | VVS1 | VVS2 | VS1 | VS2 | SI1 | SI2 | I1 | I2 | I3 |
If I have 10 diamonds that are graded SI1, probably 8 of the 10 will be eye clean, meaning you won’t see anything with the naked eye.
If you have 10 diamonds that are graded SI2, probably 2 of the 10 will be eye clean.
It’s possible to find great diamonds which are eye clean, SI diamonds. It sometimes allows you to get a slightly larger diamond or maybe a higher color grade. The most important thing will be to get the diamond evaluated, prior to making your final purchase. With SI diamonds, you want to check the location as well as the color of the internal characteristic. Twinning wisps, feathers and clouds are always great as they are hardly ever seen. You will need to again, make sure nothing breaks the surface or causes any structural issues for the diamond.
The vendor here which I recommend will offer eye clean, SI diamonds which have been or can be evaluated firsthand!
